  1. To make his funeral moan:
  2. And for the soul of him, in place
  3. Of his mighty deeds, a graceless grace
  4. To wickedly institute? By whom
  5. Shall the tale of praise o’er the tomb
  6. At the god-like man be sent —
  7. From the truth of his mind as he toils intent?
KLUTAIMNESTRA.
  1. It belongs not to thee to declare
  2. This object of care!
  3. By us did he fall — down there!
  4. Did he die — down there! and down, no less,
  5. We will bury him there, and not beneath
  6. The wails of the household over his death:
  7. But Iphigeneia, — with kindliness, —
  8. His daughter, — as the case requires,
  9. Facing him full, at the rapid-flowing
  10. Passage of Groans shall — both hands throwing
  11. Around him — kiss that kindest of sires!
CHOROS.
  1. This blame comes in the place of blame:
  2. Hard battle it is to judge each claim.
