But when he came by forced marches into Scythia (region (general)), AsiaScythia, he met the two divisions of the Scythians, and pursued them, who always kept a day's march away from him;

and because Darius would not stop pursuing them, the Scythians, according to the plan they had made, fell back before him to the countries of those who had refused their alliance, to the land of the Black-cloaks first.
