a Campanian, challenged his hospes, T. Quinctius Crispinus, to single combat when the Romans were besieging Capua, B. C. 212. Crispinus at first refused, on account of the friendship subsisting between him and Badius, but was at length induced by his fellow-soldiers to accept the challenge. In the combat which ensued, he wounded Badius, who fled to his own party. (Liv. 25.18; V. Max. 5.1.3.)
