a general in the reign of Valerian, claimed descent from the emperor Trajan. He had the command of Illyricum and Thrace, where Aurelian, afterwards emperor, was his legatus. The latter distinguished himself so much that Ulpius adopted him as his son in the presence of Valerian. (Vopisc. Aurel. 10-15.) Ulpius was consul suffectus along with his son-in-law Valerian in A.
