son of Nearchus, a maker of painted vases, whose name is inscribed, in the following manner, on several vases found at Canino, Toscanella, Corneto, and elsewhere :

ΤϜΕΣΟΝ ΗΟΝΕΑΠΧΟ ΕΠΟΙΕΣΕΝ.

His vases are all in the form of a patera mounted on a tall foot, and of an antique style of workmanship. Raoul-Rochette regards the addition of the name of the artist's father, on these vases, as a novelty borrowed from the Greek vase-makers, and as one of the proofs that the manufacture was not of Etruscan origin. (R. Rochette, Lettre à M. Schorn, pp. 61, 62, 2d ed.)
