2. King of Sophene, a district in Armenia, between

the mountains Masius and Antitaurus, of which he Was appointed king by Nero, in A. D. 54. He espoused the cause of Vespasian, when the latter was proclaimed emperor by the legions in Syria, in A. D. 69, and he subsequently served under Titus in the war against the Jews. Josephus calls him king of Emesa. (Tac. Ann. 13.7, Hist. 2.81, 5.1; Joseph. B. J. 7.28.)
