OppiusChares, sometimes but erroneously called CARES, a Latin grarmmarlian, who taught in the province of Gallia togata towards the end of the republic, and continued his instructions to extreme old age, when he had lost not only the power of movement, but even of sight. (Suet. de Ill. Gramm. 3.) This grammariai may be the Oppius, whose work De Silvestribs Arboribus is referred to by Macrobius. (Saturn. 2.14, 15.) Oppius is also quoted by Festus (p. 182, ed. Miiler), in explanation of the meaning of the word ordianarius.
