1. Father of Amyntas II., king of Macedonia, and grandfather of Philip of Macedon, according to Justin (7.4) and Aelian (Ael. VH 12.43). [*](* The latter author states that he was of illegitimate birth.) But there is much discrepancy on this point: Dexippus (apud Syncell. p. 263a.) calls the father of Amyntas Arrhidaeus; and Diodorus (15.60), Tharraleos. Justin represents him as brother cf Alexander the First, king of Macedonia, which is a gross error. (See Clinton, F. H. vol. ii. p. 225.)
