(Μηχανεύς), skilled in inventing, was a surname of Zeus at Argos (Paus. 2.22.3). The feminine form, Mechanitis (Μηχανῖτις), occurs as a surname of Aphrodite, at Megalopolis, and of Athena. in the same neighbourhood. (Paus. 8.31.3, 36.3.)
