6. Of TYRE. Malchus was the Hellenized form of the original Syriac name of the philosopher Porphyry. [PORPHYRIUS.] The Syriac name Malchus signifies "king;" and the Greek Porphyrius, Πορφύριος, was perhaps designed to be its equivalent.
