Of <hi rend="smallcaps">AMASIA</hi>. Possevino (<hi rend="ital">Apparatus Sacer,</hi>
      vol. ii. p. 462, ed. Cologne, 1608) mentions two works, <hi rend="ital">Explicatio ad
       Ecclesiastem et Canticum Canticorum,</hi> and <hi rend="ital">Dogmatica Panoplia adversus
       Judacos, Armenios et Saracenos,</hi> as written by Theodore, bishop of Amasia in Pontus. Le
      Quien (<hi rend="ital">Oriens Christianus,</hi> vol. i. col. 528) notices both works in
      speaking of Theodore, who was bishop of Amasia at the time of the fifth General Council, <date when-custom="553">A. D. 553</date>, where his signature appears among those of the subscribing
      prelates; but if, as its title indicates, the <title>Panoplia</title> is a defence of orthodox
      Christianity against Mohammedanism, the work cannot be of so early a date. No other Theodore
