A son of the river god Scamander by the nymph Idaea, was the first king of Troy, whence
      the Trojans are sometimes called <foreign xml:lang="grc">Τευκροί</foreign>. (<bibl n="Hdt. 7.122">Hdt. 7.122</bibl>.) Dardanus of Samothrace came to Teucer, received his
      daughter Bateia or Arisbe in marriage, and afterwards besame his successor in the kingdom.

      According to others, Dardanus was a native prince of Troy, and Scamander and Teucer immigrated
