      Lacedlaemon (<bibl n="Apollod. 3.10.3">Apollod. 3.10.3</bibl>; <bibl n="Paus. 3.1.2">Paus.
       3.1.2</bibl>, <bibl n="Paus. 3.18.7">18.7</bibl>, <bibl n="Paus. 3.20.2">20.2</bibl>) and of
      Eurotas. (Steph. Byz. <hi rend="ital">s. v.</hi>
      <foreign xml:lang="grc">Ταν̈́γετον</foreign>.) Mount Taygetus, in Laconia, derived its name
      from her. (Schol. <hi rend="ital">ad <bibl n="Eur. Orest. 615">Eur. Orest. 615</bibl>.</hi>)
      According to some traditions, Taygete refused to yield to the embraces of Zeus, and in order
      to secure her against him, Artemis metamorphosed her into a cow. Taygete showed her gratitude
      towards Artemis by dedicating to her the Cerynitian hind with golden antlers. (Schol. <hi rend="ital">ad Pind. Ol.</hi> 3.53.) Some traditions, moreover, state that by Tantalus she
