      and was in consequence appointed by his father to succeed him in the sovereign power. But on
      the death of Paerisades (<date when-custom="-311">B. C. 311</date>), his second son Eumelus
      contested the crown with his brother, and had recourse to the assistance of Aripharnes, king
      of one of the neighbouring Scythian tribes, who supported him with a large army. Satyrus,
      however, defeated their combined forces, and followed up his advantage by laying siege to the
      capital of Aripharnes; but, while pressing the assault with vigour, he was himself mortally
      wounded, and died immediately after, having reigned hardly nine months from his father's

       Demosth.</hi> p. 95), among the tyrants of Bosporus as early as <date when-custom="-324">B. C.
       324</date>, is the same with the preceding, who may have been admitted by his father to a
