      of Thrace, was made a citizen of Athens, in <date when-custom="-431">B. C. 431</date>, when the
      Athenians formed an alliance with his father. In the following year, the Athenian envoys at
      the court of Sitalces persuaded Sadocus to deliver up to them Aristeus and the other
      ambassadors, who were passing through Thrace on their way to Asia, to ask the aid of the
      Persian king against Athens (<bibl n="Thuc. 2.29">Thuc. 2.29</bibl>, <bibl n="Thuc. 2.67">67</bibl>; comp. <bibl n="Hdt. 7.137">Hdt. 7.137</bibl>; Arist. <hi rend="ital">Ach.</hi>
      145, &amp;c.). The name occurs as <foreign xml:lang="grc">Σάδωκος</foreign> in the
