Of Mytilene (<bibl n="Strabo xiii.p.617">Strab. xiii. p.617</bibl>), son of Lesbonax the
      rhetorician, was himself a rhetorician, in the time of Tiberius Caesar, whose favour he
      enjoyed (Suidas, <hi rend="ital">s. v.</hi>). Westermann, indeed, makes him a teacher of
      Tiberius, but this is stated nowhere else (<hi rend="ital">Geschichte Griech. Bered.</hi> p.
      106). He is mentioned as an authority regarding Alexander the Great, by Plutarch (<bibl n="Plut. Alex. 61">Plut. Alex. 61</bibl>). It is, probably, he whom Lucian states to have
      attained the age of ninety (<hi rend="ital">luacrob.</hi> § 23). Suidas informs us that,
      in addition to his life of Alexander the Great, he wrote several other works, namely, <foreign xml:lang="grc">Ὥροι Σαμίων, Βρούτου ἐγκώμιον, Περὶ τελείου ῥήτορος.</foreign>
      And, to the treatises mentioned by Suidas, should probably be added that <foreign xml:lang="grc">περὶ τῆς διαφορᾶς</foreign>, quoted by Ammonius in his treatise <foreign xml:lang="grc">περὶ ὁμοίων καὶ διαφόρων λέξεων</foreign>, <hi rend="ital">s. v.</hi>
