      third Mithridatic war. He was wounded and taken prisoner (Appian, <bibl n="App. Mith. 12.79">App. Mith. 79</bibl>; Memnon, 45, ed. Orelli). Plutarch calls him Pomponius (<hi rend="ital">Lucull.</hi> 15), which Schweighäuser has introduced into the text of Appian, though
