      historical writer, the author of a work in the Ionic dialect, entitled <title xml:lang="grc">Ναξιακά</title>, of which the third book is quoted by Tzetzes (Schol. <hi rend="ital">ad
       Lycophr.</hi> 633). He is also mentioned in a passage of Eustathius (<hi rend="ital">ad Hom.
       p.</hi> 1885. 51), where, however, the name is corrupted into <hi rend="ital">Philetas,</hi>
      and Eudocia, copying the error, places the <foreign xml:lang="grc">Ναξλακά</foreign> among
      the works of Philetas of Cos (<hi rend="ital">Violar.</hi> p. 424). That Philteas is the true
      form of the name is clear from a passage in the <hi rend="ital">Etynologicum Mcla num</hi> (p.
      795. 12), which, however, contains another error, in the words <foreign xml:lang="grc">ὁ
       καλούμενος ἱστορικός</foreign>, where the Cod. Leid. has <foreign xml:lang="grc">ὁ
       κολούλαβαῖος, ἱστορικός</foreign>, and the true reading is no doubt <foreign xml:lang="grc">ὁ Καλακταῖος</foreign>, which should probably also be substituted for
       <foreign xml:lang="grc">είτε Καλλῖνος</foreign> in the passage of Eustathius (see
