      him with an army into Greece, to support Archelaus, <date when-custom="-87">B. C. 87</date>. He
      reduced Euboea, as well as Demetrias and Magnesia in Thessaly, but was defeated by the Roman
      general Bruttius Sura. (Appian, <bibl n="App. Mith. 5.29">App. Mith. 29</bibl>.) He is again
      mentioned in <date when-custom="-73">B. C. 73</date>, as commanding, together with the Roman exile
      L. Fannius, a detachment of the army of Mithridates, which was defeated by Mamercus during the
