      Philip V. of Macedon, with whom, in <date when-custom="-202">B. C. 202</date>, the Thasians
      capitulated on condition that they should not be required to receive a garrison, nor to pay
      tribute, that they should have no soldiers billeted on them, and should retain their own laws.
      Philip, however, broke this agreement and reduced them to slavery. (<bibl n="Plb. 15.24">Plb.
       15.24</bibl>.) We learn from a fragment of Polybius that Metrodorus greatly excited Philip's
      displeasure, but by what conduct, or on what occasion, does not appear. (Polyb. <hi rend="ital">Fragm. Hist.</hi> xxxii.; Suid. <hi rend="ital">s. v.</hi>
      <foreign xml:lang="grc">Ἀνατάσεις</foreign>.) It was perhaps the same Metrodorus who is
      mentioned by Polybius as an ambassador from Perseus to the Rhodians, in <date when-custom="-168">B.
