C. 217</date>, at
      the commencement of the second Punic war, in which year lie vowed a <hi rend="ital">ver
       sacrum</hi> (<hi rend="ital">Dict. of Ant. s. v.</hi>), but this vow was not fulfilled till
       <date when-custom="-195">B. C. 195</date> (<bibl n="Liv. 33.44">Liv. 33.44</bibl>, compared with
      22.9, sub fin.). In <date when-custom="-216">B. C. 216</date> Mammula was propraetor in Sardinia,
