      produced several distinguished champions of the rights of the plebeian order. The first and
      only member of it who obtained the consulship, was C. Maenius (cos. <date when-custom="-338">B. C.
       338</date>). In ancient writers no cognomen is mentioned in this gens, but it appears from
      coins that some members bore the surname of <hi rend="ital">Anliaticus</hi> [see <hi rend="smallcaps">MAENIUS</hi>, Nos. 6 and 8].</p></div></div></body></text></TEI>
