      emendation of Suidas (s. v.), an Athenian comic poet, of the old comedy, was a contemporary
      and rival of Aristophanes. In <date when-custom="-422">B. C. 422</date> he contended, with his
       <title xml:lang="grc">Πρέσβεις</title>, against the <title>Wasps</title> of Aristophanes,
      and in the following year, with his <title xml:lang="grc">Φράτερες</title>, against the
       <title>Peace</title> of Aristophanes, and the <foreign xml:lang="grc">κόλακες</foreign> of
      Eupolis; on both occasions he obtained the third place (Didasc. <hi rend="ital">ad Vesp. et
       Pac.</hi>) Suidas also mentions his <title xml:lang="grc">Ὂνος ἀσκοφόρος</title> The
      story on which this play was founded is explained by Böckh (<hi rend="ital">Publ. Oecon.
       of Ath.</hi> p. 324, 2nd edit.).</p><p>No fragments of his plays survive. The title <title xml:lang="grc">Φράτερες</title> is
      usually corrupted into <foreign xml:lang="grc">Φράτορες</foreign>, but Meineke shows that
