      <hi rend="smallcaps">LEPIDUS</hi>, praetor <date when-custom="-213">B. C. 213</date>. (<bibl n="Liv. 24.43">Liv. 24.43</bibl>, <bibl n="Liv. 24.44">44</bibl>.) In Livy the praenomen is
       <hi rend="ital">Marcus;</hi> but instead of this we ought probably to read <hi rend="ital">Manius;</hi> for we find that the M. Aemilius Lepidus who was consul in <date when-custom="-158">B. C. 158</date> is described in the Fasti as <hi rend="ital">M'. f. M'. n.;</hi> and as
      there was another <hi rend="ital">M.</hi> Lepidus praetor in <date when-custom="-218">B. C.
       218</date> [see No. 3], it is probable that the praetor in 213 was M'. Lepidus, the father of
      the consul of 158. Marcus was such a well-known praenomen of the Lepidi, that we can easily
      understand why it should be substituted for the less common one of Manius.</p></div></div></body></text></TEI>
