A son of Amphitryon and Alcmene of Thebes, was one night younger than his half-brother
      Heracles, who strangled the snakes which had been sent by Hera or by Amphitryon, and at which
      Iphicles was frightened. (<bibl n="Apollod. 2.4.8">Apollod. 2.4.8</bibl>.) He was first
      married to Automedusa, the daughter of Alcathous, by whom he became the father of lolaus, and
      afterwards to the youngest daughter of Creon. (<bibl n="Apollod. 2.4.11">Apollod.
       2.4.11</bibl>.) He accompanied Heracles on several expeditions, and is also mentioned among
      the Calydonian hunters. (<bibl n="Apollod. 1.8.2">Apollod. 1.8.2</bibl>.) According to
      Apollodorus (<bibl n="Apollod. 2.7.3">2.7.3</bibl>), he fell in battle against the sons of
      Hippocoon, but according to Pausanias (<bibl n="Paus. 8.14.6">8.14.6</bibl>), he was wounded
      in the battle against the Mollonides, and being carried to Pheneus, he was nursed by Buphagus
      and Promne, but died there, and was honoured with a heroum.</p></div></div></body></text></TEI>
