      Thebes (Böekh, <hi rend="ital">Corp. Inscript.</hi> No. 25), who flourished, with
      Polycles I., Cephisodotus I., and Leochares, in the 102d Olympiad, <date when-custom="-372">B. C.
       372</date>. (<bibl n="Plin. Nat. 34.8.19">Plin. Nat. 34.8. s. 19</bibl>.) He made, with
      Aristogeiton, the statues of the Argive chieftains who fought with Polyneices against Thebes.

      He also made the great statue of Athena at Aliphera in Arcadia (<bibl n="Paus. 8.26.4">Paus.
       8.26.4</bibl>), which is also mentioned by Polybius (<bibl n="Plb. 4.78.5">4.78.5</bibl>),
      who calls it the work of Hecatodorus and Sostratus, and describes it as <foreign xml:lang="grc">τῶν μεγαλομεπεστάτων καὶ τεχνικωτάτων ἔπγων</foreign>. onyx has been
      found at Aliphera engraved with an Athena, which Müller thinks may have been taken after
