One of the officers (Theophones describes him as <foreign xml:lang="grc">κουράτωρ τῶν
       Μαρίνης</foreign>, " steward of the lands or revenues of Marina ") of Justinian I., on
      whose illness (<date when-custom="561">A. D. 561</date>) he was accused by the ex-pracfect,
      Eugenius, of wishing to raise Theodore, the son of Peter Magister, to the empire. The charge
      was supported by the praefects, Aetherius of Antioch and Gerontius of Constantinople; but on
      examination, it could not be proved; and the accuser, Eugenius, was himself punished, though
