      brought against P. Clodius in <date when-custom="-61">B. C. 61</date>. A few years later, <date when-custom="-59">B. C. 59</date>, he was mentioned by L. Vettius as an accomplice in the alleged
      conspiracy against Pompey. (<bibl n="Cic. Att. 2.24">Cic. Att. 2.24</bibl>.) Orelli, in his
      Onolmasticon, treats him as identical with the C. Fannius who was tribune in <date when-custom="-59">B. C. 59</date>; but if this were correct, Cicero (<hi rend="ital">l.c.</hi>) would
      undoubtedly have described him as tribune. He may, however, be the same as the Fannius who was
      sent in <date when-custom="-43">B. C. 43</date> by M. Lepidus as legate to Sex. Pompeius, and who,
      at the close of the same year, was outlawed, and took refuge with Sex. Pompeius in Sicily. In
       <date when-custom="-36">B. C. 36</date>, when Sex. Pompeius had gone to Asia, Fannius and others
