        <surname full="yes">Here'nnius</surname></persName></label></head><p>son of the emperor Decius, upon whose accession in <date when-custom="249">A. D. 249</date> he
      received the appellations of <hi rend="ital">Caesar</hi> and <hi rend="ital">Princeps
       Jueentuttis.</hi> In 2.51 he was consul, was admitted to a participation in the title of
      Augustus, and towards the close of the year was slain along with his father in a bloody battle
      fought against the Goths in Thrace. [<hi rend="smallcaps">DECIUS.</hi>] We gather from coins
      that his designation at full length was <hi rend="ital">Q. Herennius Etruscus Messius Trajanus
       Decius,</hi> the names <hi rend="ital">Herennius Etruscus</hi> being derived from his mother
