      Eryx, in Sicily, where she had a famous temple, which was said to have been built by Eryx, a
      son of Aphrodite and the Sicilian king Butes. (<bibl n="Diod. 4.83">Diod. 4.83</bibl>.) Virgil
       (<hi rend="ital">Aen.</hi> 5.760) makes Aeneias build the temple. Psophis, a daughter of
      Eryx, was believed to have founded a temple of Aphrodite Erycina, at Psophis, in Arcadia.

      Erycina was introduced at Rome about the beginning of the second Punic war (<bibl n="Liv. 22.9">Liv. 22.9</bibl>, <bibl n="Liv. 22.10">10</bibl>, <bibl n="Liv. 23.30">23.30</bibl>, &amp;c.), and in <date when-custom="-181">B. C. 181</date> a temple was built to her
