      was an officer in <ref target="alexander-the-great-bio-1">Alexander's</ref> army. He had been
      driven into banishment by Philip because of his faithful attachment to <ref target="alexander-the-great-bio-1">Alexander</ref>, and returned when the latter came to the
      throne in <date when-custom="-336">B. C. 336</date>. At the battle of Arbela, <date when-custom="-331">B.
       C. 331</date>, he commanded the cavalry of the allies, as he did also when <ref target="alexander-the-great-bio-1">Alexander</ref> set out from Ecbatana in pursuit of
      Dareius, <date when-custom="-330">B. C. 330</date>. In the same year Erigyius was entrusted with the
      command of one of the three divisions with which <ref target="alexander-the-great-bio-1">Alexander</ref> invaded Hyrcania, and he was, too, among the generals sent against
      Satibarzanes, whom he slew in battle with his own hand. [<hi rend="smallcaps">CARANUS</hi>,
      No. 3.] In 329, together with Craterus and Hephaestion, and by the assistance of Aristander
      the soothsayer, he endeavoured to dissuade <ref target="alexander-the-great-bio-1">Alexander</ref> from crossing the Jaxartes against the Scythians. In 328 he fell in battle
