      <hi rend="smallcaps">PHACAS</hi> (<foreign xml:lang="grc">Φακᾶς</foreign>) a physician who
      was one of the followers of Herophilus (Galen, <hi rend="ital">Gloss. Hippocr.</hi> prooem.
      vol. xix. p. 63), and lived in the second or first century B. C. According to Suidas (<hi rend="ital">s. v.</hi>
      <foreign xml:lang="grc">Διοσκ</foreign>.), who, however, confounds him with Dioscorides of
      Anazarba, he lived at the court of Cleopatra in the time of Antony, <date when-custom="-41">B. C.
       41</date>-<date when-custom="-30">30</date>, and was surnamed Phacas on account of the moles or
      freckles on his face. He is probably the same physician who is mentioned by Galen (<hi rend="ital">Gloss. Hippoer. s. v.</hi>
      <foreign xml:lang="grc">Ἰνδικόν</foreign>, vol. xix. p. 105), and Paulus Aegineta (<hi rend="ital">De Re Med.</hi> 4.24), as a native of Alexandria. He wrote several medical works,
