A Spartan, through whose treachery, according to one account, Cleomenes was defeated by
      Antigonus at the battle of Sellasia, <date when-custom="-222">B. C. 222</date>. (Phylarch. apud <hi rend="ital">Plut. Cleom.</hi> 28; comp. <bibl n="Plb. 2.65">Plb. 2.65</bibl>, &amp;c.)
      Damoteles is said in Plutarch to have had the office of commander of the Crypteia (see <hi rend="ital">Dict. of Ant. s. v.),</hi> which would qualify him for the service of
