      (Cic. <hi rend="ital">de Off.</hi> 2.16, <hi rend="ital">Verr.</hi> 2.49; Fasti Capit.),
      appears in <date when-custom="-100">B. C. 100</date> as one of those who <pb n="770"/> took up arms
      against Saturninus. (Cic. <hi rend="ital">pro Rab.</hi> 7.) In 99 he was curule aedile, and in
      the games celebrated by him elephants were for the first time exhibited in the circus, and
      painting employed in the scenic decorations. (<bibl n="Plin. Nat. 8.7">Plin. Nat. 8.7</bibl>,
       <bibl n="Plin. Nat. 35.7">35.7</bibl>; <bibl n="V. Max. 2.4.6">V. Max. 2.4.6</bibl>.) In 85
      he was praetor in Sicily, and, by direction of the senate, gave laws to the Halesini
      respecting the appointment of their senate. (<bibl n="Cic. Ver. 2.49">Cic. Ver. 2.49</bibl>.)
      The Mamertini made him their patronus. (<hi rend="ital">Verr.</hi> 4.3.) He was consul in 92.
       (<hi rend="ital">Fasti Cap.</hi>) Cicero (<bibl n="Cic. Brut. 45">Cic. Brut. 45</bibl>)
