      mentioned by Eustathius, who calls her <foreign xml:lang="grc">ποιήτρια
       κρουμάτων</foreign> (<hi rend="ital">Ad Iliad.</hi>
      <foreign xml:lang="grc">β́</foreign> 711.) Aristophanes alludes to her in a passage which
      the Scholiast and lexicographers explain as a proverbial expression implying that she was "
      silly and foolish." (<hi rend="ital">Ecclesiaz.</hi> 943; Suidas, <hi rend="ital">s. v.;
       Etymol. Mag.</hi> and Hesychius, <hi rend="ital">s. v.</hi>
      <foreign xml:lang="grc">ἐπὶ Χαριξένης</foreign>.) She is said to have been also a
      flute-player, and an erotic poetess. (<hi rend="ital">Etym. Mag.</hi> and Hesych. <hi rend="ital">l.c.</hi>) Nothing is known of her time or country. The reference to her as an
      erotic poetess has been understood as indicating that she belonged to the Aeolic lyric school;
      and the words of Hesychius (<foreign xml:lang="grc">ἀρχαία οὖσα</foreign>) perhaps imply
