      contemporary of Ptolemy Philadelphus.</p><div><head>Works</head><p>Callixenus was the author of two works, which are lost.</p><div><head><foreign xml:lang="grc">περὶ Ἀλεξανδρείας</foreign></head><p>The work which bore the title of <foreign xml:lang="grc">περὶ
        Ἀλεξανδρείας</foreign>, consisted of at least four books, and was much used by Athenaeus.

        Sopater, in the twelfth book of his Eclogae had made an abridgement. (Phot. <hi rend="ital">Bibl. Cod.</hi> 16]; comp. Preller, <hi rend="ital">Polem. Fragm.</hi> p. 178, &amp;c.)
