The Asinii came from Teate, the chief town of the Marrucini (<bibl n="Sil. Ital. 17.453">Sil. Ital. 17.453</bibl>; <bibl n="Liv. Epit. 73">Liv. Epit. 73</bibl>;
      Catull. 12); and their name is derived from <hi rend="ital">asina,</hi> which was a cognomen
      of the Scipios, as <hi rend="ital">asellus</hi> was of the Annii and Claudii. The Herius,
      spoken of by Silius Italicus (<hi rend="ital">l.c.</hi>) in the time of the second Punic war,
      about <date when-custom="-218">B. C. 218</date>, was an ancestor of the Asinii; but the first person
      of the name of Asinius, who occurs in history, is Herius Asinius, in the Marsic war, <date when-custom="-90">B. C. 90</date>. [<hi rend="smallcaps">ASINIUS.</hi>] The cognomens of the Asinii
      are <hi rend="smallcaps">AGRIPPA</hi>, <hi rend="smallcaps">CELER</hi>, <hi rend="smallcaps">DENTO</hi>, <hi rend="smallcaps">GALLUS.</hi>
      <ref target="pollio-asinius-bio-1">POLLIO</ref>, <hi rend="smallcaps">SALONINUS.</hi> The only
