      <hi rend="smallcaps">CAPITO</hi> (<foreign xml:lang="grc">Ἀρτεμίδωρος ὁ
       Καπίτων</foreign>), a Greek physician and grammarian at Rome, in the reign of the emperor
      Hadrian, <date when-custom="117">A. D. 117</date>-<date when-custom="138">138</date>. He was a relation of
      Dioscorides, who also edited the works of Hippocrates, and he is frequently mentioned by
      Galen. (<hi rend="ital">Comment. in Hippocr.</hi> "<hi rend="ital">De Humor.</hi>" vol. xvi.
      p. 2; <hi rend="ital">Gloss. Hippocr.</hi> vol. xix. p. 83, &amp;c.) He may perhaps be the
      person sometimes quoted simply by the name of Capito. [<hi rend="smallcaps">CAPITO.</hi>]</p><div><head>Works</head><div><head>An Edition of the Works of Hippocrates</head><p>He published an edition of the works of Hippocrates, which Galen tells us (<hi rend="ital">Comment. in Hippocr.</hi> " <hi rend="ital">De Nat. Hom.</hi>" vol. xv. p. 21) was not
        only much valued by the emperor himself, but was also much esteemed even in Galen's time. He
        is, however, accused of making considerable changes in the text, and of altering the old
