He probably lived under Trajan, and, according to
      the conjecture of Grotius, is perhaps the same person with the orator Arrianus, who
      corresponded with the younger Pliny. (<bibl n="Plin. Ep. 1.2">Plin. Ep. 1.2</bibl>, <bibl n="Plin. Ep. 2.11">2.11</bibl>, <bibl n="Plin. Ep. 2.12">12</bibl>, <bibl n="Plin. Ep. 4.8">4.8</bibl>, <bibl n="Plin. Ep. 8.21">8.21</bibl>.) He may also possibly be identical with
      the Arrianus Severus, <hi rend="ital">praefectus aerarii,</hi> whose opinion concerning a
      constitution <hi rend="ital">Divi Trajani</hi> is cited by Aburnus Valens. (<bibl n="Dig. 49">Dig. 49</bibl>. tit. 14. s. 42.) He wrote a treatise <hi rend="ital">de Interdietis,</hi> of
      which the second book is quoted in the Digest in an extract from Ulpian. (<bibl n="Dig. 5">Dig. 5</bibl>. tit. 3. s. 11.) In that extract, Proculus, who lived under Tiberius, is
      mentioned in such a manner, that he might be supposed to have written after Arrianus. There is
      no direct extract from Arrianus in the Digest, though he is several times mentioned.
