      was the son of Aristophanes, who first introduced him to public notice as the principal actor
      in the second <hi rend="ital">Plutus</hi> (<date when-custom="-388">B. C. 388</date>), the last play
      which he exhibited in his own name: he wrote two more comedies, the <foreign xml:lang="grc">Κώκαλος</foreign> and the <foreign xml:lang="grc">Αἰολοσίκων</foreign>, which were
      brought out in the name of Araros (<hi rend="ital">Arg. ad Plut.</hi> iv. Bekker), probably
      very soon after the above date. Araros first exhibited in his own name <date when-custom="-375">B.
       C. 375</date>. (Suidas, <hi rend="ital">s. v.</hi>) Suidas mentions the following as his
      comedies: <foreign xml:lang="grc">Καινεύς, Καμπυλίων, Πανὸς γοναί, Ὑμέναιος,
       Ἄδωνις, Παρθεννίδιον</foreign>. All that we know of his dramatic character is contained
      in the following passage of Alexis (<bibl n="Ath. 3.123">Athen. 3.123</bibl>e.), who, however,
      was his rival:</p><p><foreign xml:lang="grc">καὶ γὰρ Βούλομαι<lb/> ὕδατός σε γεῦσαι· πρᾶγμα δʼ ἐστί
