C.
       45</date>, and Cicero pleaded illness as a reason for his absence from the inaugural
      festival, which seems to have lasted several days. (<bibl n="Cic. Att. 12.13">Cic. Att.
       12.13</bibl>-<bibl n="Cic. Att. 12.15">15</bibl>.) At the time of Caesar's death, <date when-custom="-44">B. C. 44</date>. Appuleius seems to have been quaestor in Asia; and when Brutus
      crossed over into Greece and Asia, he assisted him with money and troops. (<bibl n="Cic. Phil. 10.11">Cic. Phil. 10.11</bibl>, 13.16; Appian, <bibl n="App. BC 3.8.63">App. BC
       3.63</bibl>, <bibl n="App. BC 4.10.75">4.75</bibl>.) He was proscribed by the triumvirs,
       <date when-custom="-43">B. C. 43</date>, and fled to Brutus, who placed him over Bithynia. After
      the death of Brutus, <date when-custom="-42">B. C. 42</date>, he surrendered the province to Antony,
