Of <hi rend="smallcaps">NICAEA</hi>, lived in the time of the emperor Tiberius, to whom
      he dedicated a Commentary on <pb n="237"/> the Silli of Timon. (<bibl n="D. L. 9.109">D. L.
       9.109</bibl>.) He wrote several works, all of which are lost.-- 1. A commentary on
      Demosthenes' oration <foreign xml:lang="grc">περὶ παραπρεσβείας</foreign>. (Ammon. <hi rend="ital">s. v.</hi>
      <foreign xml:lang="grc">ὄφλειν</foreign>.) 2. On fictitious stories (<foreign xml:lang="grc">περὶ κατεψενσμένων</foreign>), of which the third and eighth books are
      mentioned. (Ammon. <hi rend="ital">s. v.</hi>
      <foreign xml:lang="grc">κατοίκησις</foreign>; Anonym. <hi rend="ital">in Vita Arati.</hi>)
      3. A work on proverbs. (Steph. Byz. <hi rend="ital">s. v.</hi>
      <foreign xml:lang="grc">Τέρινα</foreign>.) 4. A work on Ion, the tragic poet. (Harpocrat.
       <hi rend="ital">s. v.</hi>
      <foreign xml:lang="grc">Ἴων</foreign>.) An Apollonides, without any statement as to what
      was his native country, is mentioned by Strabo (<bibl n="Strabo vii.p.309">vii. p.309</bibl>,
      xi. pp. 523, 528), Pliny (<bibl n="Plin. Nat. 7.2">Plin. Nat. 7.2</bibl>), and by the
      Scholiast on Apollonius Rhodius (4.983, 1174; comp. 2.964), as the author of a work called
       <foreign xml:lang="grc">περίπλος τῆς Εὐρώπης</foreign>. Stobaeus (Florileg. 67.3, 6)
