A freedman of Nero, and formerly his tutor, commanded the fleet at Misenum in <date when-custom="60">A. D. 60</date>, and was employed by the emperor to murder Agrippina. He was
      subsequently induced by Nero to confess having committed adultery with Octavia, but in
