D. 460</date>), succeeded Eustathius as Patriarch <date when-custom="1025">A. D.
       1025</date>. In <date when-custom="1034">A. D. 1034</date> he crowned Michael IV. the favourite of
      Zoe, who, to make way for him, procured the death of her husband, the Emperor Romanus. He
      thwarted the attempts of John (the emperor's brother) to gain the patriarchal see (<date when-custom="1036">A. D. 1036</date>), and died <date when-custom="1043">A. D. 1043</date>. <hi rend="ital">Decrees</hi> of his are extant, ap. <hi rend="ital">Jus Gr. Rom.</hi> vol. i.
