a Roman praenomen, signified a twin-child, who was born safe, while the other twin died before birth. (Plin. Nat. 7.8. s. 10 ; Solin. 1.; Val. Max. Epit. De Nominum Ratione, pp. 878, 879, ed. Torrenius.) Like many other ancient Roman praenomens, it was afterwards used as a cognomen.
