(Μηθυμναῖος), a surname of Dionysus, derived, according to some, from Methymna, rich in vines. (Hesych. sub voce Verg. G. 2.20.) Others derived it from μέθν (sweet or wine), as Plutarch (Sympos. 3.2) and Athenaeus (viii. p. 363).
