Smith, William

A Dictionary of Greek and Roman biography and mythology. William Smith, LLD, ed. 1890

(Αὐτοκράτης), an Athenian, a poet of the old comedy. One of his plays, the Τυμπανισταί, is mentioned by Suidas and Aelian. (V. H. 12.9.) He also wrote several tragedies. (Suidas, s. v. Αὐτοκράτης.)

The Autocrates whose Ἀχαϊκά is quoted by Athenaeus (ix. p. 395 and xi. p. 460) seems to have been a different person.
