No Romans of this name are mentioned till the latter end of the republic; but we
      meet with several persons of the name among the Italian nations in the second Punic war. [See

      <hi rend="smallcaps">VIRRIUS</hi>.] The first of the gens, who obtained the consulship, was C.
      Vibius Pansa in <date when-custom="-43">B. C. 43</date>; and several Vibii appear in the Consular
      Fasti under the empire. Two of the Roman emperors, <hi rend="smallcaps">TREBONIANUS</hi>
      <hi rend="smallcaps">GALLUS</hi> and <hi rend="smallcaps">VOLUSIANUS</hi>, bore the name of
      Vibius. The coins of the Vibia gens have on them the surnames of <hi rend="ital">Pansa</hi>
