      1.9.) St. Cyprian regarded this opinion as the correction of an error (S. Augustin. <hi rend="ital">De Baptismo,</hi> 2.7, vol. ix. p. 102, ed. Bened.), and St. Augustine seems to
      imply he defended his error in writing. (<hi rend="ital">Epist.</hi> 93, c. 10.) He held the
      Council of 70 Bishops at Carthage about <date when-custom="200">A. D. 200</date> (Vulg. <date when-custom="215">A. D. 215</date>, Mans. <date when-custom="217">A. D. 217</date>) on the subject of
      Baptism. Though he erred in a matter yet undefined by the Church, St. Augustine notices that
      neither he nor St. Cyprian thought of separating from the Church. (<hi rend="ital">De
